This tiny log cabin is a perfect retreat for two when you need a break from life in the big city. The space within is just right; with room for a small kitchen, a wood burning fireplace, a closet, a dining table and two twin beds – similar in some respects to Thoreau’s cabin at Walden Pond.<\/p>\n

At only 108 square feet (9 ft. x 12 ft.) it is a manageable building project for one person. Its small size also makes it more efficient to heat with a factory-made zero-clearance steel liner fireplace surrounded by stone to look like a real masonry chimney. The roof covering the four foot front porch is optional and designed to be easily added at a later date.<\/p>\n

If you have access to an abundance of tall, straight trees, that you plan to cut down yourself, consider peeling off the bark and letting them season for a year before starting construction. If you do not have enough trees on site, you could have a sawmill cut and deliver them. Whatever your circumstances, know that building your own log cabin is a labor-intensive, yet immensely rewarding experience.<\/p>\n
